- Sustainable Development is a unit within Appalachian’s University College. University College consists of the university’s integrated general education curriculum, academic support services, residential learning communities, interdisciplinary degree programs and co-curricular programming – all designed to support the work of students both inside and outside of the classroom.

The Yanapuma Foundation is a cooperatively run NGO that aims to facilitate sustainable solutions in poor, indigenous, marginalized and rural communities throughout Ecuador, and to encourage intercultural exchange that fosters mutual benefit and learning in our globalizing world. YANAPUMA offers a variety of volunteer opportunities in many areas of interest all over Ecuador. Most projects require long-term volunteers of at least 3 months
